MSCA Doctoral Network
The DONUT (European Doctoral Network for Neural Prostheses and Brain Research) project aims to address various challenges in the field of Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) research through the education and training of doctoral candidates (DCs). The areas of training include improving the quality of life of locked-in patients, post-stroke rehabilitation, development of commercial products based on BCI and EEG technologies, early detection of Alzheimer‘s disease using EEG brain recordings, and BCI research for everyday use. It therefore is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals “Good Health and Wellbeing”, “Quality Education” and “Gender Equality”.
EU Project DONUT Goals & Concepts
- Train a new generation of doctoral candidates (DCs) who are intellectual risk-takers, creative and autonomous in their research
- DCs should become independent researchers as soon as possible after successful finishing their PHDs
- Doctoral training within DONUT network will be embedded in an open research environment and culture
- The planned secondments to project partners will assist the candidates during their scientific careers
- Doctoral training will particularly benefit from global networking through collaborative research
- Training, together with industrial secondments, will help to develop specific transferable skills
- The doctorate education withing DONUT network will be research-based with the state-of-the art technology
This DN will combine project- and discipline-specific scientific training with innovative cross-disciplinary training, to achieve its ambitious research and training goals, constructing a shared foundation of knowledge, as well as training in transferable academic and soft skills.
